To boost CPEC cooperation, Liu Jianchao demands Pakistan improve security situation
A senior Chinese official emphasized the critical role of internal stability for national development during a meeting with Pakistan's political leadership, stressing the need for unity among parties.
"In today's world of increasing uncertainties, internal stability is fundamental for any country to achieve progress. Pakistan, facing both domestic complexities and external challenges, is navigating through turbulent waters," stated Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC).
Jianchao made these remarks while co-chairing the third meeting of the Pakistan-China Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), alongside Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The event was attended by leaders from major political parties including PTI, PML-N, PPP, and others.
Highlighting the significance of political and social stability for sustainable development, Jianchao underscored China's commitment to balancing reform, development, and stability as essential pillars for progress.
Regarding CPEC, a flagship project aimed at enhancing Pakistan's economic landscape through substantial Chinese investment, Jianchao acknowledged its positive impact but stressed the imperative of enhancing security measures. He cited security threats as a significant concern hindering seamless cooperation on CPEC projects.
Jianchao expressed China's readiness to support an enhanced version of CPEC while urging improvements in the security and business environment. He commended Pakistani security forces for their efforts in safeguarding projects critical to bilateral relations.
Reflecting on the robust friendship between Pakistan and China, Jianchao acknowledged public support as the cornerstone of their enduring relationship. However, he cautioned against external influences, particularly from Western social media, which he perceived as potentially undermining the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to bolstering people-to-people ties with China, emphasizing mutual respect and understanding as key pillars of their strategic partnership. He hailed CPEC as not only a symbol of friendship but also a beacon of international cooperation, essential for Pakistan's economic growth and sustainable development.
Dar highlighted the unanimity among Pakistan's political parties regarding CPEC's significance, noting ongoing efforts to upgrade the corridor, particularly in sectors like industry, agriculture, IT, and mining.
In conclusion, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation amidst evolving global dynamics, underscoring the importance of stability, security, and mutual trust in advancing their shared goals.
