Sindh Announces 2024-25 Budget Totalling Rs3056 Billion

The Sindh budget for the upcoming fiscal year, totaling three thousand fifty-six billion rupees, was presented in the provincial Assembly in Karachi on June 14, 2024.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also serves as the finance minister, outlined the budgetary proposals, highlighting an Annual Development Programme of 959 billion rupees. He announced a salary increase of 22 to 30 percent for government employees and a 15 percent rise in pensions.

The budget allocates 519 billion rupees for Education, 334 billion rupees for Health, and 329 billion rupees for local governments. Additionally, 58 billion rupees are designated for the agriculture sector, 77 billion rupees for the energy sector, 94 billion rupees for irrigation, and 86 billion rupees for Works and Services departments.

In the realm of transportation, 56 billion rupees have been allocated, while the Services General Administration and the Home Department will receive 153 billion rupees and 194 billion rupees, respectively.

The Chief Minister also announced an increase in the minimum wage, raising it from thirty-two to thirty-seven thousand rupees. A special initiative for employees in scales 1 to 6 will introduce a personal pay component to bridge pay disparities.

The budget includes 116 billion rupees for subsidies to alleviate the financial burden on citizens and earmarks 25 billion rupees for housing schemes. Furthermore, five billion rupees have been set aside for the Hub Canal Project, which aims to supply water to Karachi.
